Where Does the Name Vakfikebir Come From?
The first name of Vakfıkebir is Fol. This name of the county 45 km. It is named after the creek of the same name that originates in the south of the town and pours into the sea in the district center. Its second name is Büyükliman. The part between the Fener (Yeros) Cape in the east and the Zeytin (Yobol) Cape in the west is a natural harbor partially closed to the black sea and is in the center. For this reason, it was called Büyükliman for many years. It got its current name from the mother of Yavuz Sultan Selim, Gülbahar Hatun. Gülbahar Hatun, who traveled from Istanbul to Trabzon by sea to see her son, Şehzade Selim, who was the Governor of Trabzon at that time, was caught in a great storm and dedicated that she would dedicate the land she would set foot on to God if she survived. Gulbahar Hatun, who set foot on the land in the settlement center, which was then called Büyükliman, dedicates these lands. The name of the region was Vakfikebir (Grand Foundation) after this date, since the donor was great (the sultan's wife). Although its name has a history of five hundred years, the names Fol and Büyükliman are used from time to time.
